Penrith (North along the A592, 13 miles)
Morrisons, Co-op, Booths, Sainsburys, Aldi, B&Q, Boots, WH Smith, B&Ms, Burtons, Argos, and a variety of small shops, plus most of the major banks/building societies. there’s also the Alhambra “Twin Screen” Cinema – not quite a multiplex, but they try their best, bless them…
Carlisle (20 miles up the M6 from Penrith, 33 miles from here)
Quite a good city centre for general shopping – many of the major chains can be found here as well as some nice smaller local places. Also has a Cathedral and a Castle to visit, a big Vue multiplex cinema, “10-pin Bowling” and lots of other stuff to do and see.
Keswick (17 miles from here)
Popular tourist centre both in the town centre dominated by the Moot Hall and the Lake Shore with its “Theatre by the Lake”.
Ambleside & Windermere (8 & 11 miles respectively)
A bit touristy over there, can be difficult to park – but there are a variety of eateries and shops that will keep you occupied if you’re that way inclined. Cinemas in both. Zeferrelli’s & Fellini’s at Ambleside do a great cinema “meal deal’.
It’s quite pretty as well, we suppose…. but not a patch on here! No siree. Honest.
Kendal (21 miles away) Many high street shops, banks and eateries. Some nice local places too, and the Brewery Arts Centre has a cinema and is a fab little venue which plays host to many great musical and stage acts.
